Group Tour Information

The History of the MASS MoCA Site

"MASS MoCA joins the 'A-list' of American tourist destinations. It's a great philosophical site, and it's fun. Go, by all means." The New Yorker

What counts as a group?

  • 10 or more in the group
  • Reservations must be made in advance
  • All tickets must be purchased in one transaction at the time of or before the visit.

How much are group rates?

Admission may be paid in advance of at the Box Office upon arrival. Cash, checks, or credit cards are all welcome.
  • $13.50
  • $9
  • $5 elementary, middle, and high school students
  • Free for children 5 and under

How many chaperones do we need?
One adult chaperone per every 10 students is admitted into the museum free for all school groups. Each additional chaperone is $11.

Do we have to take a tour? How do we get a tour for our group if we want one?
Guided tours are not required, but are highly recommended. We suggest that one tour guide be scheduled for every 20 people in your group. All tours last about one hour and cover current gallery highlights. Printed information about the exhibitions is available in the galleries or can be mailed to you in advance of your visit if you like. Our tour guides are fully trained paid professionals not volunteer docents and there is a charge for a guided tour.

  • Guides for elementary, middle or high school groups $30/guide.
  • Guides for college or adult group$60/guide.

When are the galleries open?

  • Winter/Spring/Fall hours (Labor Day - June 30): 11 AM - 5PM, closed Tuesdays
  • Summer hours (July - Labor Day) 10 AM - 6 PM every day

How far in advance do we need to reserve?
Visits are generally scheduled according to availability, but we make every effort to accommodate your scheduling needs. At least two weeks advance notice is required to schedule a guided tour. Self-guided groups need only to give 2 business days notice to qualify for group rates. The average group visit lasts one to three hours. To make reservations, or for answers to any questions, please contact Brittany Bishop, Marketing Coordinator, at (413) 664.4481x8111.

Where do we park?
Parking is available for individual vehicles, vans, and buses in our general parking lot. Please be considerate of space when parking large busses in the lot. There is no parking fee.

Do you provide funding for busses?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide subsidies for busses but if you are in Massachusetts, your school may be eligible for a grant from the local Cultural Council to pay for buses.
Download a fact sheet about the Big Yellow Schoolbus Program or fill out an on-line application.

We want to buy/bring lunch. What do we need to do?
Our cafe, Lickety Split (413) 663.3372, is pleased to provide healthy, affordable box lunches, drinks, and desserts, with at least two business days advance notice. If your group is bringing their own lunches you can reserve the "brown bag café" which seats up to 25 people (larger groups, can stagger gallery tour and lunch times to allow double seating). Reservations are required for both box lunches and brown bag café space. When the weather cooperates, up to 80 people can use the picnic tables and sit in the grassy area under the upside down trees. There are also several restaurants on Main St. and Eagle St. in North Adams that offer lunch options.

Can we visit Kidspace too?
Although housed on the MASS MoCA campus, a visit to Kidspace is not included in a MASS MoCA group visit. We would be happy to try and accommodate both visits if schedules permit. To schedule a visit to Kidspace contact Kidspace directly or call 413.664.4481 x8131.

For additional information or to reserve a tour contact Brittany Bishop in the marketing department by phone at 413.664.4481 ext. 8111 or e-mail.
